Mestizo Mexican Restaurant (Food Tour Gang)
On this month’s episode, where would the gang go and what would they taste today?
Let me break it down: we were absolutely amazed by the portions and flavour, especially considering the price. A quick note—there’s a £5 holding fee per person to book, but don’t worry, it’s deducted from your final bill.
Here’s what we ordered:
Nachos (with meat, cheese, and jalapeños)
Flautas
Queso Fundido
Taco tray (x2)
Mixed Mx2
Orden de tortillas (flour and corn)
Churros
(No drinks included)
We tried both types of tortillas—corn and flour—but I’d recommend the flour ones. They weren’t too heavy, keeping it simple yet satisfying. We were tempted to get guacamole, but at £9.50, we decided to pass.
The presentation was stunning—elegant and true to Mexican culture. The dishes were well-seasoned, and everything felt authentic. My personal favourite was the nachos: perfectly loaded with minced meat, jalapeños, and a generous amount of cheese.
The taco tray meant for two, surprisingly fed six of us! We also tried the house special Molcajete Mestizo, a sizzling volcanic stone bowl with a rich tomato sauce, and we chose the chicken and beef combo. The flavours were bold, and the presentation was a showstopper.
The overall vibe of the place was lively, and the staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, making sure we were well taken care of. The hot pot dish was especially impressive, and the cheese—oh, the cheese! It was melty, flavorful, and just perfect for sharing.
Bonus: Mestizo has a market right next door where you can pick up authentic Mexican snacks and ingredients, which was a fun surprise. If you ever want to recreate the experience at home, they've got you covered.
Overall, highly recommend it for the food, the atmosphere, and the unique cultural touch!
